If you are interested, contact Jerry Hoffman at jh12sports@aol.com. He doesn't need committments, just an indication of interest.

Lymphoma Survivor Lives Dream to Manage

May 7, 2008

The American Division Mariners are one of the new teams in the SJMSBL in 2008 and for their manager, Scott Gentile, he's living a dream. Scott's been playing in the SJMSBL since 2001. In 2006 he was diagnosed with an advanced case of lymphoma. He missed not only the 2006 baseball season, but most of 2006 from work. He endured intense treatments culminating in a bone marrow transplant.

"Running smack into the 'life is short' credo resulting from this experience, I was inspired to pursue one of my lifelong passions, to manage a baseball team."
-- Scott Gentile, Mariners manager

Scott's cancer has been in remission for over two years, but continues to motivate him to follow his dreams.

Good luck to Scott and the Mariners.

Players Look to Former Coach to Find a Team / League

May 6, 2008

Out of college eligibility and scholarships, a group of players looked to a former high school coach to find them a team to play on. That's how Coach Hartshorn and the Blue Jays(18) started their journey to the SJMSBL.

Roger Hartshorn had been coaching varsity baseball at Piedmont Hills High School for many years. Some of his former players, including his son, were out of college eligibility and scholarships and looking for a team to play on, so through his son they contacted their former coach.

"I talked with Robert Ettare on the phone about possibly joining the SJMSBL and he told me if I had an entire team I could join the league, so I presented that to my son and the players and they jumped at the opportunity, but they said they would play if I set it all up and coached the team."
-- Roger Hartshorn, Blue Jays(18) Coach

Coach Hartshorn had coached his son and many of the other players on the Blue Jays at one time or another in his 30 years of coaching. The other Blue Jays players he didn't coach played at Cal State Monterey Bay or Mission College with his son or on various other High School teams.

Good luck to the Blue Jays and have a great first season in the SJMSBL.
