San José's Ric Foley returned to the World Series in a dominating way after a seven-year hiatus, here throwing
a shutout of the powerful San Antonio Bombers. San José finished atop their division
going 4-2 during round-robin play before having their hearts broken in the first-ever best-of-three championship.

Reds Team MVP Hector Esparza slammed a home run in the Reds title game against the Mets at Santa Cruz. The Reds jumped out to a 10-1 lead before hanging on to beat the Mets 14-9 and claim the Central Division title. (Photo submitted by Jim Hadley).
Giants pitcher Mike Denevi (right, #23) and second baseman Rich Zuvella (#7) look on as right fielder Huck Hibberd catches the final out of their championship series against the Indians at Gilroy High School. The Giants swept the Indians two games to none to reclaim the National Division title and dethrone the four-time defending champion. Jon Cannon powered the Giants offense going 4-for-5 with three home runs on the day. (Photo submitted by Michael Boesch).
Cardinals pinch hitter Rob Apodaca gets plunked by Blue Jays pitcher Dan Ferriera late in game one of their doubleheader at Aptos. Apparently Ferriera's high slider just didn't slide. That's Blue Jays catcher Gino Panelli reaching for the ball. The Cardinals swept the Blue Jays 9-3 and 7-6 to move on to the Pacific Division Finals against the Braves. The Braves swept the White Sox 3-1 and 6-1 at Independence. (Photo submitted by Jon Trees).
Blue Jays(18) centerfielder Gabe Chase makes a headfirst slide into the plate past Braves catcher Bubba Cordeiro to score for the American League in the 2008 SJMSBL All-Star Game on August 20th. The National League won the game 10-8. (Photo submitted by Jim Hadley).
A's manager Riall Moore keeps his eye on the ball as he takes ball four in their game against the A's(18) at Fremont High School. The A's eventually lost to the A's(18), 10-2. Moore, in his first year as manager, leads his team with a 2.70 ERA and will once again represent the A's at this week's All-Star Game. Last year Moore knocked in the winning runs in the top of the ninth of the 2007 All-Star Game. (Photo submitted by Paul Woo).
Mike Denevi of the Giants, an SJMSBL legend, threw eight strong innings in beating the Indians 12-3 at Fremont. Mike has been in the league since 1989 and leads the league in all-time SJMSBL victories, outpacing teammate John Yandle. Mike starred at Santa Clara University and made it to Triple-A before retiring. He has 10+ MSBL World Series rings from Phoenix and was a key member of the Giants dynasty during their seven consecutive SJMSBL titles run in the 90's. (Photo by Jim Hadley).
Reds(18) catcher Ben Raya gets caught in a pickle between Gary Colvin (left) and James Nunez (right) of the Expos(18) in the 4th inning of their game at Independence. Raya was eventually tagged for the third out. The Reds(18) beat the Expos(18) 13-3. (Photo by José Medina).
Brewers' right fielder Kevin Angelinovich hits a 3-run bomb in the top of the 4th inning of game two to tie the game at 3-3. The Brewers dropped both ends of the doubleheader against the Blue Jays(18) at Soquel, 9-4 and 9-6. Nick Zaballos is the Blue Jays(18) catcher. (Photo by Jim Hadley).
After being harassed by his teammates, Mariners second baseman Whit Fletcher now has proof he keeps his head in. Here he smacks a single to center to leadoff the 4th inning in game two against the Orioles at Oak Grove. Unfortunately, the Mariners dropped both ends of the doubleheader to the Orioles, 14-1 and 20-2. (Photo by Joe Paulsen).
Andrew Banuelos of the Reds(18) is tagged out at home by Blue Jays(18) catcher Ben Hartshorn. The Reds(18) swept the Blue Jays(18) taking the first game 7-3 and the second game 5-0 in a doubleheader at De Anza. (Photo taken from the Reds website).
Reds(18) right fielder Travis Adams (#19) looks on as center fielder Brian Pino (2-for-4, 2 Runs, 2 2B, RBI) slides into home in the fifth inning of game one against the A's(18) at De Anza. The Reds(18) pounded out 18 hits in the 21-5 game one victory. The Reds(18) won game two 10-0. (Photo submitted by José Medina).
Reds(18) DH Rudy DeAnda slams the first of his two home runs on the day in game 1 at Independence High School. Rudy went 2-for-4 with two home runs as he helped lead the Reds(18) 23-hit attack in crushing the Expos(18) 21-4. (Photo submitted by José Medina).
Nick Doan of the Mets(18) threw eight strong innings against the Reds(18) at Soquel. All he got for it was a no-decision. Lurking in the background is Kyle Hartz, the vulture himself, who got the 4-3 win in the 11th. (Photo by Maddy Feduk, daugther of Brian Feduk).
Tigers shortstop Melvin Sousa smacks one of his two doubles on the day with Tom Herrington and Chris Rosa looking on. Sousa had 4 RBIs and led the Tigers to a 10-5 victory over the Giants at Wilcox High. (Photo by Jim Hadley).
Down 5-0 to the Padres, D-backs third baseman Mark Krause blasts a leadoff home run in his first at-bat of the season to start the D-backs comeback in the top of the third. The D-backs eventually scored 16 unanswered runs in the game to top the Padres 16-5 at Branham High School on May 18th, 2008. (Photo by D-backs SS Chad King).
Mets(18) closer Neil Kunkel throws a pitch on Opening Day in the Mets(18) 11-1 win over the Expos(18) at Soquel. The thing is, the game was already over. After a long off-season, the Mets(18) and the Expos(18) decided to continue playing after their season opener ended after 7 innings due to the 10-run rule. They eventually had to stop playing when they hit the time limit and players were arriving for the second game. (Photo by Jim Hadley).
