The Blue Jays two youngest players came up big going a combined 7-for-7 in the opener against the scrappy Pirates. Travis Talbot homered going 3-for-3 and Josh Sheehan had a 4-for-4 game with 4 RBIs backing the pitching of Dan Ferreira, who scored 3 times.

Park, Panelli, Barnes, Talbot, and Ackley all scored twice. Hoffman's RBI single ended the contest.

John Hadley pitched 5 1/3 strong innings no earned runs. Dave Lesniak made several great catches in center, hit a 3-run home run to seal the game and then pitched the last inning 1-2-3.

John Yandle pitched 6 strong innings leaving in the 6th with the Giants trailing 7-4. In the top of the 7th, Mike Boesch doubled to left center to tie the game at 7. In the 8th, the Giants manufactured a run to take the lead, then Chris Denevi hit a 2-run homer to dead center to give the Giants a 3-run cushion that held up for the win.

Steve Chase relieved John Yandle to get the win.

A well pitched game by Mike Denevi and Craig Jones. Both pitchers went the distance.

In the 2nd, the Tiger's Melvin Souza homered to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Giants answered back in the 4th with 2 runs on 4 hits. The Tigers came back again with 2 more homers in the 5th by Murray Brown and Souza again. The Giants tied the game in the 6th by manufacturing a run. Finally, in the bottom of the 7th, Nick Caravelli (the newest member of the Giant team), hit a 2-out bases-loaded line drive into right center for the game winning hit.

Mike Denevi gave up 4 hits and pitched to only 4 batters over the minimum.
