After trailing since the first inning, the Orioles took their first lead with a three-run bottom of the eighth, to pull out the tight 7-6 win.

In the 2nd game of the day at De Anza College, it was the Padres vs. the Orioles. The Padres jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, highlighted by Micah Taylor's two-run home run (his first home run of the day). The Padres kept the offensive pressure up and ended the day with 19 runs.

The O's played a tough game.

Kevin Wakeman and Jaime Ybarra battled for 9 innings with Wake getting the win. Kevin pitched a 3-hit gem, giving up only one unearned run for the complete game victory.

Joe Brotherton and Jon Cannon fueled the Giant offense. Joe went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored and Jon went 1-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

Mike Denevi scored on a wild pitch in the first and Jon Cannon drove in Mikey Smith in the third with a sac fly to give the Giants a 2-0 lead. That's all Wakeman needed to get the win and take a 1-0 lead in the championship series.

Mike Denevi pitch another gem for the Giants. Mike threw a 9-inning complete game while giving up only 6 hits, walking one, and striking out six.

With a little help from the Giant defense, Denevi only faced 31 batters - 4 over the minimum. The Giants took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Kevin Wakeman base hit. In the 3rd, Huck Hibberd hit a solo shot and the Giants added one more for a 3-0 lead. In the 8th, the Giants put the game out of reach with home runs by Mike Denevi and Jon Cannon.

On the day, Mike Denevi and Kevin Wakeman gave up zero earned runs over 18 innings. With the victory, the Giants win the National Division title for the second year in a row.
