SJMSBL News - 2017
SJMSBL League Championship Sunday October 8 at Los Gatos
For the first time since 1998 when the league split into different divisions there will be one league champion when the division winners meet this Sunday at Los Gatos high school.
The morning game will feature the Ettare Division Champion Phillies vs the Nicewonger Division Twins. The Phillies managed by Jose Zapien and Gilbert Guel had a remarkable year and bring a 19-6 record into Super Sunday while the Twins posted a 21-3-1 mark in winning their third straight division title under co managers Max Blankenship & Kye Madej.
Waiting for the winner of the morning game will be the legendary dynasty of the Dunn Division Champion Giants who sport a 20-4 record. Rookie manager Nate Harbarger did an impressive job in guiding the Giants to their 18th division title (and fourth straight) in their 26th appearance in the division finals as the league celebrates its 30th season.
The Giants are the last team to win an overall league championship in 1998.
SJMSBL Division Championships Start This Sunday September 24
Games one and two of the best of three division championship series will be played at 10 am and 1:30 pm at Baylands, Los Gatos and Willow Glen.
The Nicewonger (18+) Division finals at Baylands will feature the two time defending champion Twins (19-2-1) and the surprising upstart Cubs (12-9-2) who have completed a remarkable turn around after finishing in last place in 2016 to reach the finals. The Twins are attempting to complete a three peat.
The Dunn Division championship at Los Gatos with a "three peat" match-up. For the third consecutive year the Giants (18-4) and Indians (15-10) will battle for the division crown. The Giants are seeking their fifth straight title and 18th division championship. The Indians have won the division seven times.
At Willow Glen the Ettare Division will have a new champion for the first time in four years as the Phillies (17-5) and surging White Sox (15-9-1) compete for a title that will be the first for either of these very scrappy teams.
